IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO SHED A FEW POUNDS TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF, HERE ARE SOME TIPS A SPORTS INSTRUCTOR AND COACH GAVE ME...

THE BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT IS TO START GENTLY AND CHANGE YOUR DIET

"A lot of people who want to lose weight come to the gym", explains Ludovic Doyer, sports coach. It's best to start gently doing regular work-outs with intervals of recovery”.

Because the body has to manage heart and muscular effort at the same time.

If you start gently, you'll avoid injury and severe stiffness. And you need to watch what you eat day by day. When you start exercising regularly, it's important to have a sensible diet, so you don't have any deficiencies”.

DRINKING WATER - ALLIES FOR WEIGHT LOSS

The coach explains that you can combine going to the gym with swimming, hydrospinning or water walking. Osteopath Caroline Bonnière agrees . “Swimming and water sports are totally complementary with working out at the gym, or other sports more likely to injure your joints. They can also prevent risk of injury”.

“What's more, swimming burns lots of calories , adds, Joëlle Joly, Sports-Health instructor. You work all your muscles.”

LOSE WEIGHT: A LITTLE EACH WEEK, BUT LONG TERM

If you work out three times a week and eat a healthy diet, you are likely to lose weight: between 500 grams to a kilo the first month, then 200 to 400 grams per week.

“An overweight person tends to lose weight more quickly than someone who only needs to lose 2 or 3 kilos, continues Ludovic Doyer. But you can't change your shape in a month...you body has to get used to it. Sometimes, beginners are discouraged because they expected more results more rapidly.

Ideally, you need to adapt your diet so you are not missing anything, and it might be a good idea to consult a dietician. In the long term your body will find a balance between physical activity and a suitable diet”.
