What's the point of training on a rowing machine?

A rowing machine session is an all-over strength workout. It burns just as much energy as running or cycling.

But to get the most out of your rowing workout, you need to choose the right rowing machine:

- Check its weight: it needs to weigh more than you so that it won't wear out prematurely

- The seat shouldn't scrape or make any noise on the monorail

- The movement on the monorail should be fluid.

Why not try the Domyos 500 rowing machine? It's designed for daily use!

What type of training should you do?

The rowing machine is a cardio machine that can be used to vary the following:

- Cadence (strokes per minute)

- Intensity (heart rate)

- Volume of work (duration, no. of sets)

- Load (the heavier the load, the lower the cadence)

You can start out with an aerobic session: 18 strokes per min at 75% of your maximum heart rate, 3x5 min for a 30-min session.

Next, do a highly aerobic session: 24 strokes per min at 85% of your maximum heart rate, 2x4 min for a 10-min workout.
