Sports serving e-sports

It's up to you to decide whether e-sports are sports or not. One thing is certain: if you spend a lot of time playing in front of a screen, it is clearly a good idea to play a sport in addition. When done in parallel with video games, sports are particularly beneficial - and not just for your body. They allow you to play even better against your opponents. Isn't that nice?

Sports for improving your gaming performance

In the world of e-sports, little things can make a difference. But sometimes the level is so high that players feel like they are stalling, and no longer improving. They are missing that little boost that helps them get an advantage over their opponent. A frustrating situation that sports can help improve.

Certain sports, like running or weight training, are excellent for working on perseverance and exceeding your goals.

With running, you will want to keep getting faster, or going further in a given time.

In weight training, over the course of your workouts and with determination, you will see your body change and you'll be able to lift that 100kg bar, for instance.

After exceeding your goals in sports, you are more focused and determined than ever to reproduce your feat in-game.

But that isn't all!

Certain games require sharp reflexes. Boxing is an excellent sport to improve your reaction time and thus perform even better against players who are also constantly improving.

In his book Yellowstar, become a champion of League of Legends, the famous player Yellowstar, describes:

“There was a time when I feared that all the time spent at the gym was time lost for League of Legends, but in the end, I became a better player because of sport.”

Sports fight the stereotype of the "pimply anti-social geek”

Working out as a supplement to play is a good calculation in every way.

At a high level, video games require many hours of training per day, or even almost the whole day. A poor routine that could have serious consequences for the body. In the long term, sitting in front of a screen all day without any movement can lead to problems of obesity, diabetes, cholesterol, or muscle issues.

Adding in an athletic activity, no matter what it is, allows you to move and activate your circulation and muscles.

But it's not just about improving performance. E-sports are gaining more and more publicity, and its high-level players are more often in front of the camera. For some of them, sports are about stopping the damaging and often stereotyped image of video games. On this topic, Yellowstar adds:

“In my case, I wanted to present the best version of myself for my fans. I couldn't decently claim to be a model and stay in that state. Today [...] I try to convey a positive image of e-sports. I hope to help young players so that one day, they can prove to their parents that it is possible to grow and be healthy in this area.”

So the player created a routine combining sport and video games, and he didn't miss a single day. A more-than-winning combination that allowed this world-renowned player to lose 40 kg and improve both his own image and that of players in general. But not only that...

Sport for improving team cohesion

By playing or practising alone at home, e-sport players can sometimes end up isolating themselves (this does not represent all players, but this subject should be mentioned because it exists).

Of course, players are often connected and speak with the other members of their team, or even with opponents, but this contact - often audio through computer screens - does not replace true social ties.

Under these conditions, adding sport to e-sports has a double advantage:

Sports, especially team sports, create a strong social bond with your teammates.

By strengthening social bonds, players who tend to isolate themselves gain confidence and communication skills. These benefits can transfer to the game, with better communication and cohesion between the different team members.

“I got back my self-confidence. I was no longer afraid to talk in front of a camera. I was free and didn't understand how I could have lived differently in the past. All that positive energy came out in my game. I took more initiative without being afraid of risk. I felt more focused, tougher. As a human, I came fully out of my shell and opened up to others without embarrassment.”  says Yellowstar.

INCREASING SKILL, IMPROVING COHESION WITH YOUR TEAM MATES: YOU UNDERSTAND, MIXING SPORTS AND E-SPORTS IS A WINNING COMBINATION THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE DURING THE CLOSEST GAMES.
