JUMP ROPE, THE CALORIE BURNER

Jump rope, the calorie burner

We don't think of it very often, but small fitness accessories can yield results that are just as good as generally costly and bulky fitness equipment. Take the jump rope: you can easily find it for less than 10€, and yet it is very efficient... give it a try!

An effective fitness accessory

The jump rope is an indispensable accessory. It is the perfect fitness exercise for burning calories, losing weight, having a flat tummy and avoiding cellulite issues.
- 15 minutes of jumping rope is the equivalent of 30 minutes of jogging.
- 725 calories are burnt per hour of jumping rope.

Jumping rope is a simple and complete exercise, which also improves balance and contributes to good body positioning.
Jumping rope calls upon the lower body muscles while toning the arms, the shoulders, the back and the abdominals.
When it is mastered, it is also a very good way to boost your endurance capability.

What type of rope should i choose?

If you are just starting, choose a light nylon rope, less expensive and less painful, particularly if you mess up your movement.
If you are more experienced, choose a leather rope.
Equip yourself with good athletic shoes designed to absorb shocks, and if possible, avoid training on overly hard surfaces (concrete, tile...).

Remember: weighted jump ropes are also available; they allow for more significant work on the arm and shoulder muscles.

How do i adjust my rope?

To jump well, you must adjust the length of your rope.

To do so, place your foot in the middle of the rope and raise the wrists towards the upper body. For beginners, the wrists should come up to just below the shoulders; for the more athletic, up to the ribs.

What position should i be in while training?

- Your body should be perfectly upright, your head aligned with your neck and with your spinal column
- Your abdominals should be tight
- Your knees are slightly bent, elbows bent at 45°
- The palms of your hands are turned towards the sky

Use your wrists to turn the rope, not your arms.

This sport is accessible to everyone, even the slightly overweight; however, if you have back or joint problems, or if you have had leg or herniated disc surgery, avoid this sport
